The .CH top-level domain was introduced in 1987, making it one of the oldest domain extensions. Today, almost one in four Swiss people own a .ch domain. This domain extension is of particular interest to residents, organizations and companies in Switzerland. Switzerland is a federalist, democratic state in Europe consisting of 26 partially sovereign cantons and has four official languages: German, French, Italian and Romansh. At national level, "CH" is used as the country code, derived from the Latin Confoederatio Helvetica, so as not to disadvantage any of the four official languages.
